Dans son approche quasi picturale de la céramique, Emile Degorce-Dumas articule plusieurs degrés d’effets, du lisse au granuleux et du mat au brillant et joue de l’attraction exercée par cet apparat éclatant sur le regard et le cœur. Ces papillons punks paradent. Mais leur luxuriance extérieure se teinte aussi d’un vocabulaire du répulsif : ils sont parcourus de manière viscérale par des griffes de paresseux, des cafards dégoûtants et des plaies béantes que tentent de combler des sparadraps pour enfants. De fait, le fourbi clinquant se consume dans le cocasse de ces grands blessés qui s’avachissent ; bien que cette fragilité ne soit pas synonyme de pudeur.
In his almost painterly approach to ceramics, Degorce-Dumas articulates several degrees of effect, from smooth to grainy and from matte to glossy, and plays on the attraction exerted by this dazzling pomp on the eye and the heart. These punk butterflies parade. But their outward luxuriance is also tinged with repellence: they are viscerally crisscrossed by sloth’s claws, disgusting cockroaches, and gaping wounds covered by children’s plasters. In fact, the flashy junk is consumed by the humor of these wounded, slouching figures, although this fragility is not synonymous with prudishness.
